Shifts in demographics, values and expectations are changing not only how people look at where, when and how they work – but also the way they view their careers. Deloitte and Touche USA LLP research shows that employees want the ability to make reasonable choices about fitting their lives into their work and their work into their lives – both today and as their needs change over time. So we’re redesigning the workplace, creating innovative programs like the two described below to give our people more control over how, when and where they work, as well as more career options.
Career Customization
Despite a workforce that is clamoring for more flexibility, there is mounting evidence that formal flexible work arrangements are not the answer. So if today’s readily accepted views of flexibility are not the answer, what is? In a word: customization. Borrowing from the trend toward mass product customization, Mass Career Customization™ fills the gap between the traditional “one-size-fits-all” and “custom-made” approaches. Career customization moves away from isolated flexibility programs to a more cohesive model by which employees can adapt important career dimensions to their individual needs. This model eliminates one-dimensional flexibility approaches and makes customized careers the norm.

Personal Pursuits
Personal Pursuits allows Deloitte professionals to step out of the workplace without stepping out of the network. The program is designed for employees who wish to leave the workforce for one to five years with the intention of re-entering thereafter. Participants stay connected and their skills stay up-to-date through Deloitte-sponsored ongoing training, mentoring, networking events, continued licensing accreditation, and even ad-hoc assignments each designed to keep their skills and relationships current.
