Transportation summit: Connecting with purpose

Transforming transportation for a prosperous and sustainable future

Metro Vancouver’s population is projected to increase to 3.8 million people in the next 25 years, adding to the region’s transportation-specific challenges such as traffic congestion and the need for sustainable energy. Success in addressing such roadblocks to make way for a better tomorrow will depend on collaboration between business, academia, and every level of government.

Deloitte convened a transportation summit in May 2023 to bring together leaders in the public and private sectors to consider the best ways to move forward. British Columbia is already home to world-leading expertise in sectors that can contribute to creating solutions, such as clean technology, mining for critical minerals, and digital innovation. This summary of what we explored at the summit looks at:

  1. BC solutions with global impact
  2. An ecosystem approach to transportation
  3. Safe, efficient, affordable, and sustainable movement
  4. Prioritizing data
  5. Creating conditions for decarbonization innovation

Collaborate to move forward

This is an opportunity for British Columbia to become a global centre for clean transportation technology. Collaboration will be crucial throughout the transition. As the saying goes, if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.

This moment calls for our leaders to go fast and go far—to connect with purpose and transform our transportation networks and regional economy for a brighter future for all.
