Deloitte hosts 'China Tax Workshop ─ Series Three: Latest regulations of "Beneficial Owner" and HK Certificate of Residency status (CoR)'

China Tax Workshop - Series Three: Latest regulations of "Beneficial Owner" and HK Certificate of Residency status (CoR), well attended by more than 70 participants, was held on 27 August 2018 in Hong Kong.  During the workshop, our tax partners Leo Yang and Polly Wan gave the latest development of Bulletin 9 relating to "beneficial owner" in tax treaties (including the latest guidance to determine "beneficial owner", the scope expansion of safe harbor in certain situations and the "Look-through" rule – applies to "same countries/treaties' if the applicant meets the requirements); as well as how the Bulletin 9 would impact the HK companies in their application of CoR and the practice notes of Inland Revenue Department.

Apart from this, our two tax partners provided an analysis on above issues from technical and practical perspectives; and explore possible solutions. The latest guidance of Bulletin 9 and the successful cases on the application of Certificate of Resident Status in Hong Kong were also discussed at the workshop which received positive feedback from the participants of Hong Kong business communities.
